These are utilities I frequently use, freeware gems that don’t do many things, but when you need a specific task done, they do what you need them to do. I’ve placed them here so I can find the things when I need them, but figured I’d share them with everyone else, as they work nicely for the job. These are all Windows programs by the way.
Video
avifrate110.zip
This program will allow you to alter the frame rate of a previously created AVI files. Visit their home page for a few more handy utilities.
t@b_tabencode_win32.exe
A very useful video converter tool, which is here because it can open Electric Sheep’s MPEG-2 video files, and can convert them to native Windows .AVI or other more standard video formats for editing purposes.
Shoop0.9.zip
Shoop is a very specialized program, designed to sort through and compile hundreds or thousands of mpeg video clips from the Electric Sheep screensaver. I’m placing it here since the web site that usually hosts is has a habit of going offline every now and then. Whatever you do, do NOT run this program until you read the docs. You need to COPY your files to a working directory- do NOT use it on your main archive, as some may be deleted. Documentation is found here.
Sheep Utility Pack
Burger’s put together a nifty set of utilities to work with converting mpeg files, and other nifty animation stuff. Includes Virtual Dub for compiling videos.
System Utility
FantomDVD-20070724.zip
This is a beautiful tool that sets up a virtual CD drive on your system, allowing you to mount ISO files and run them as if they were on a disc, a very sweet Windows program.
Digital Photos
Namexif
This is handy- this will rename digital photos based on the original date the photo was taken via the EXIF metadata field, so now you can sort on actual photo date instead of the modified date.
3D Apps
Elefont14
This is an oldie but a goodie. It takes fonts and turns them into 3D meshes of the font to use in 3D programs.
