Unfortunately Necessary Legal Words
All content on this site is Copyright ©1996-2009 Steven A. Lareau, Hilltop Design.
No content from this web site may be printed, reproduced, archived, packaged or distributed, remotely loaded from my site by hot linking to my content, mirrored, downloaded and re-posted elsewhere, or used in any form without my express written permission.
You may set my images as wallpaper on your own personal computer, for your personal enjoyment, but you may not distribute my artwork in any way.
You may not save and email my artwork to others. You may not download my artwork and submit it to free wallpaper websites. You may not download and post my artwork in forums, message bases- this is my work, and this is where they should be, right here at the website I’ve built to showcase my work.
It’s better to send others here to see them on this site, in the format and context I wish them to be presented.
Pay close attention to this part, it’s very important you understand this.
Taking my artwork and using it, in any way without my written permission, is not a compliment by any stretch of the imagination.
Taking my artwork and using it for a background image at Myspace or other throw-away web site is an insult.
You’re not paying me any compliments stealing my artwork. Hotlinking to content on my server is not cool, you’re making me pay to show my artwork somewhere I don’t want it to appear. You are stealing, and there’s no argument you can give me otherwise, a thief is a thief. Taking what’s mine, without my permission, is theft. Linking to artwork on my website is stealing money out of my pocket. You are a thief. You suck. And I hate you.
I’ve been amazed at the balls some people have. Numerous times, when I discovered they hot linked to my artwork on throw away websites, and I’ve asked them to remove it, I’ve had people arguing with me that doing this is a compliment, that I should be happy that people like my artwork enough to use it.
Screw. That. Shit.
You have no say in the matter. None. To argue that it’s OK for you to do whatever you’re doing with my artwork, my property, is ignorant. You have no right, real or imagined, to do anything with my creations.
When you find things on the Internet, that doesn’t mean it’s Public Domain, it doesn’t mean it’s free for the taking. Unless someone specifically states that you’re free to make use of their material, it’s hands off.
I have the final say, you have no say in the matter. Respect me, respect my work, and respect my wishes. That’s the best way to get through life. Some day someone may pay you the same respect. But it’s not a given, respect must be earned.
You can pay me a compliment by buying a print, or a calendar, or a trinket box with my artwork on it. Or you can take a moment to send a quick note, I love hearing from people that enjoy my work. That is always acceptable praise.
This site is my own work, the result of years of work, it’s created by me investing hours of my life to create it. It’s mine, all mine, so leave everything right here where you found it.
I’m choosing to share my work with the world, but that doesn’t mean it’s yours to do whatever you want with it.
