Steve Highfield Photography
Every now and then, you run into an online gallery that takes your breath away. This one left me breathless for a very long time. This one man’s work is truly spectacular, they’re scenic photos taken at dawn and at dusk, making full use of the beauty of the first and last light of the day.
Go pay a visit to Steve’s galleries, it’s good for your soul. http://www.stevehighfieldphotography.com
Help for the colorblind
I’m colorblind. Horribly colorblind. If you design graphics or web sites for the world, you really should keep in mind that a great number of people have problems differentiating colors.
You can download some free software so you can see what colorblind people see- or you can submit images or URLs online and instantly get an idea how it looks to those with color perception problems. http://www.vischeck.com/

It’s Blendie!
Blendie- a voice operated blender. You growl, it blends. Watch the movie. Fun stuff.
Musical Tesla Coils Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy
This is great stuff. Twin giant solid state Tesla coils perform music. The electric arc is creating the tones. The music that you hear is coming from the sparks that these two identical high power solid state Tesla coils are generating. There are no speakers involved.
The Tesla coils stand 7 feet tall and are each capable of putting out over 12 foot of spark. They are spaced about 18 feet apart. The coils are controlled over a fiber optic link by a single laptop computer. Each coil is assigned to a midi channel which it responds to by playing notes that are programed into the computer software. These coils were constructed by Steve Ward and Jeff Larson. Video was captured by Terry Blake. What is not obvious is how loud the coils are. They are well over 110dB If you look at another You Tube video which is from a different angle, you can hear the echo off the building and get a better idea of how loud it is.
Windows Live
Ok. I’m sold. Windows Live is one of the coolest things from Microsoft. I’ve downloaded just the Live Writer module, and it rocks. I’m not too sure on the enhanced email thing yet, although I haven’t messed with it much.
But this blogging tool, Live Writer, rocks. It works with LJ, and apparently also works with Word Press and other types of blogs. You might want to check it out.
Oh, it also has a free online file storage setup, up to a gig, accessible anywhere you’ve got Internet access. There’s also a file sharing deal, where you can share public files or set access for different users. There’s a lot of goodies to be had, they’ve got little demo movies detailing what it can do. It might come in handy for working at different locations and being able to access files you need to get hold of.
